Miami International Airport sits about 12 miles west of South Beach, and in normal traffic the drive takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes. How that half hour feels depends almost entirely on which option you chose at the terminal.
Your three options from MIA
Most arriving travellers choose between the taxi rank, a rideshare app and a private chauffeur. All three offer the same journey. The differences show up in the price, in where you meet the car and in how much of the airport you have to negotiate on your own.
| Option | Where you meet it | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi | Taxi rank outside arrivals | Set by the county, plus tolls |
| Rideshare | Designated rideshare area | Varies with demand |
| Private | Meet and greet in baggage claim | Flat rate, quoted before you fly |
Why a chauffeur makes sense after a long flight
A pre-booked car removes the decisions at the end of the trip. Your flight is tracked, so a delay moves the pickup and a late landing is met early, and your chauffeur takes the bags while you find the air conditioning.
Chauffeur tip — Send your flight number, not just your landing time. It lets us follow your arrival and delay without you having to call us at 11pm from a baggage carousel.
Timing the drive
Late evenings and early mornings are usually quickest. Weekday rush hours and big event weeks, such as Art Basel in early December, add extra time on the causeways.
- Early morning — usually the quietest traffic of the day.
- Weekday rush hours — allow extra time on the way in to the city.
- Event weeks — book ahead, demand for cars peaks.
The first hour in Miami should be the easy part.
Booking your transfer
Send your flight, the number of travellers and your hotel or address, and we’ll reply with a flat rate in writing, usually within the hour. You can also book a car for the same morning, the days in between and the drive home.
